Energy upgrade completed:-)
As many of you who follow us know, we have had a large project to upgrade the house to be more energy-efficient over the last two years. The first year the solar panels, a battery, a large air-to-water heat pump and a major upgrade of the electric system were completed. Together with the solar collectors that were installed already 20 years ago, this will provide a lot of clean energy - and we can reduce the use of gas for heating almost to zero, except for short periods during winter. We can also use the energy from the sun to heat the pool :-). Two car chargers were also installed to provide charging for guests having electric cars.
Heavy heating on the move..
This year we have upgraded the house itself by installing new energy-efficient windows and doors, plus additional insulation of the roof. Quite a large project and we were impressed by the speed and quality of the work by the windows/doors supplier and the roof work. We are very happy that the old roof tiles could be re-used to preserve the building characteristics.
After the project, we have a property that is a lot more energy-efficient and the energy certificate of house is improved by two levels. Most of the year we will only use renewable energy, which was a very important factor when we decided to start the project. Luckily, we received financial support from a “near zero energy use buildings” program in Italy!
Now we can finally turn our attention to other small and large projects to prepare for the next season. We will continue to develop Ferrarotti as a sustainable property and a nice place to stay both for our guests and ourselves :-).
